In New York, concrete jungles where dreams are made

I just caught the latest episode of Glee Season 2.

I. Am. Blown. Away.

Glee has to be the best series-musical ever made yet. Those of you who finds it too cheesy, I don't care what you think about it anyway!

SHOULD I???

Should I???? I'm sooooo tempted... green or pink?!

You can get it here at KATE SPADE for USD$25.

Movie Trailer: Burlesque

Ever since she was out of that Mickey Mouse club, I've been waiting for this to happen. Xtina stars in her first movie/musical (don't understand why they complicate things) together with Cher (omg gag!) in this musical movie "Burlesque".

We know Xtina can definitely sing and when she showed us how dirrrrrrty she can get, we knew she can dance from a distance. But the question is, can she ACT?

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester lends her star power support to a worthy cause, as BVLGARI introduces a specially-designed silver and ceramic ring in October in support of the company’s 2010-2011 pledged commitment of $7.4 million to support quality education for the world’s neediest children.

The new ring will also feature the Save the Children logo engraved on the inside. The ring will be sold through 2011 in BVLGARI stores worldwide, for SGD$670 each, of which SGD$130 will be donated to Save the Children.

Please help the children for they are our future and they need all the help they can get. You might be their pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow.

In my veins

I was once told that there's no unloving someone.
We merely come to terms that some things are not meant to be.

Track: In my veins by Andrew Belle

I can run away and leave you anytime

Song of the moment: Oh my God by Cults (they're so.. good.. soooo goood...)

Oh my god, I'm stuck in exactly the same position
I'm so tired of sitting around here with my boring life
Wishing I could find another name to go by
Late at night I'm dreaming about a time where I could change my side

Please don't tell me you know the rules to go by
I can run away and leave you anytime
Please don't tell me you know the plans for my life
I can run away and leave you here to stay inside dreaming

I'm so tired of all these honest decisions
Oh my god, I'm ready to walk right out that door
I never wanted a single thing for my life
All I wanted was to know that I have never wasted my time

Please don't tell me you know the rules to go by
I can run away and leave you anytime
Please don't tell me you know the plans for my life
I can run away and leave you here to stay inside dreaming

Oh my god, I'm stuck in the same lame tradition
I'm so tired of thinking about the things that I have been missing
I never wanted a single thing for my life
All I wanted was to know that I have never wasted my time

Please don't tell me you know the rules to go by
I can run away and leave you anytime
Please don't tell me you know the plans for my life
I can run away and leave you here to stay inside dreaming

What is Sexy?

Video: FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2010!

If you bothered to finish watching this video from Xin MSN, you'll find out what is Andrea Fonseka's advice to all you growing girls on how to be sexy: Fake sexiness long enough and you'll make it.

Haha, bet you girls didn't realize it was all that hard, huh?

So... what is sexy?

Well, I'm not saying Andrea Fonseka's tip is wrong. It may help some girls eventually get there but you know honestly, nobody described Sexiness as well as Sophia Loren did:

"I think the quality of sexiness comes from within. It is something that is in you or it isn't and it really doesn't have much to do with breasts or thighs or the pout of your lips."

Simply, Sexiness comes from a good heart. It comes from someone who's genuine about herself, her body, her mind and (oh god, I'm so cheesy) soul.

New Stuff: The Sample Store

Note: The following review is not paid, I'm just blogging because I find it interesting.

Look at what came in the mail earlier!

I was browsing the web a few days back and chanced upon The Sample Store
I found it pretty interesting and I signed up for an account. It's free anyway.

Anyway, some background on what The Sample Store is all about - In a nutshell, it's an online store where you can purchase samples of products you find in all major pharmacies/beauty stores which you'd like to try but is uncertain whether you want to buy the whole bottle of 160ml!

Their tagline was very well thought of: "The Easiest way to find suitable products online".

Are you one of those people who finds yourself wind up with MANY unfinished products (especially Shampoo, facial products, body care products)? You walk past a store and you stopped to look at this prettily packaged bottle. You pick it up and tried the tester. And God forbids, you actually like the smell/texture/whatever (you can just simply like how it looks! -___- I'm way too guilty......). So you wind up paying a good amount of money but months down the road, you realise that over time it doesn't really suit you and you stop using it which eventually goes to waste.

Moral of the story? It's soooo easy making money from women. (Don't be pissed at me, it's true!)

This is what we call - Compulsive purchase, my good people.

But anyway, back to The Sample Store - So what's so great about them is that they allow you to spend VERY minimum on samples of products you've always wanted to try. If you like it after a couple days of use, you purchase from the web again or buy from stores. Simple as that!

I like that the idea's fresh and very economical to our wallets. Of course, as a consumer, you'd ask this question: But I get samples for FREE what?

Yes, but if you check the online store they actually carry products that are not that commercialized over the TV or papers. Brands like Dermalogica, Be the Skin and many more. These are samples where you probably won't get so easily at Watson's or Guardian. Plus frankly, their samples don't even cost a lot. It's only a very small fraction of actual product's cost.

What's also cool about the store is it's interactive among members (like forum la) where you can read other people's reviews on a certain product before deciding whether you want to buy. You can also share your own reviews! Very cool.

The user interface is alright. They kept their design very clean and minimal. It's straightforward without all that fancy functions which I like a lot. Their look and feel remind me so much of Muji!

Anyway, if you sign up now, you'll immediately receive 6 points which you can redeem samples for FREE or at very low prices. You need 2 points to redeem 1 sample. So as usual, I got excited and browsed the site for products I want to try and decided on these two....

Organix's Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shampoo (FOC) & Dermalogica Clean Start kit (Paid $2.99)

I've heard raves about Organix shampoo that it smells divine and I've always wanted to try so I'll let you guys know how it is.

I used to use the Dermalogica range and I quite like it and generally their products are quite expensive. I paid $2.99 for 4 of their recommended product samples from their Clean Start range which I personally feel is extremely worth it instead of buying the actual item which could cost up to $200 or more for a set of 4 like this. Look out for my review when I've tried them.

My package took awhile to be delivered to me (I almost completely forgot that I bought them!!!!) but when it came in the mail, I was impressed with the packaging. My products came bubble wrapped too!! HAHAHA cheap thrill is still a thrill.

Yay bubble wrap!!

To sum it up, it's a pleasant experience purchasing from the site and I certainly hope they bring in more product samples for us vainpots to try! So far, the only down side is that they've quite limited products to get samples from.

I like how e-commerce is getting so easy to for everyone, young and old. Say bye bye to those shameless moments where you go to counters asking for samples! You can now buy them online at the comfort of your home. And YAY for saving money!!

Flea Rider at Wavehouse!

Hello guys!

We're back from our virgin flea and seriously, dead beat. Though the crowd was really slow moving but we had a lot of fun ;)

We were rather early so we picked quite a good spot. We had some shade hahahaha. The weather was perfect, not a single tinge of grey clouds!

You can see more photos taken at the flea at our fanpage!
Be a fan and be updated with promotions ;)
Link here: http://www.facebook.com/theurbandiary

As part of The Urban Diary, we draw inspiration from people we meet and see almost anywhere! Today at the flea, we met a couple of interesting people who had a wicked sense of style which we're totally diggin'.

Summer is all about colors and showing enough skin.

Isn't this what summer's all about? The flora halter dress and the big hat! Hahaha, we love how yellow compliments Phyllis' skin color and her megawatt smile.

I'm totally diggin' Gillian's pink shorts! Whoever said denim has to be blue? She was literally shining today - the pink, purple and silver sequins on her tank top really gave her the shine. We adore that she completed her outfit with a silver tote bag which was really cute. When's the best time to put on flip flops? SUMMER!

We like how this outfit looks so comfortable yet chic. It is also very easy to put together! Not everybody can pull off a Union Jack print though... But girl, we love those hot pink shade. :P You know, I heard plasters are used to accessorize.. hahahah, I call it a STYLE BUMP!

Not everybody's comfortable with big prints or bright colors - It's okay to stick to black but how can you make black look hot this summer instead of boOoooring?

Rompers are so in right now. I like the frilly sleeves, so girlie and cute. But what I really, really like is those pair of uber chic summer sandals! You know, what shoes you wear tells a lot about you as a person. I always recommend friends to invest in a good pair of sandals that's versatile enough for most outfits. You should too!

Fedora hat, checked. Cute shorts with zipped side pockets, checked. Studded summer sandals, checked! Check out Sunny's feather dangly earrings too.. I'm loving them! Yes, it does seem a little overdressed for the beach but you know, she just added a little glam and glitter to her outfit and there's nothing wrong with it!

Tell us which is your favorite outfit and why by commenting and you might just walk away with one pretty summer frock ON US. :P

Alright guys, till next time! Don't forget to check out our store for pretty summer frocks! We've gotta clear them all out before we bring in more stuff!

Thank you for all the support at the flea and thank you for our friends who came down!

Love,
April

Movie: Going the Distance

Again, feeling very lucky, J-SON gave us 2 free tickets to the preview of Going the Distance at Iluma, Bugis. (Hahaha, what's with me and that place! You can't stop destiny, huh.)

Watch trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HGDx2cAdMo

If you're keen to find out what's the movie about, read on! (I'm giving you a choice to not let me spoil it for you, ok!)

In a nutshell, "Going the Distance" is about a couple dealing the ups and downs of a long distance relationship. Tadah! Not very hard to guess, huh? You probably have already guessed. Although the plot is extremely predictable, I actually enjoyed it very much.

As usual, Drew Barrymore always outdo herself in any role given to her. I'm actually very surprised that it didn't make my stomach flip seeing this real-life couple snogging each other on the big screen. Both of them gave a genuine performance. I had my eye on Justin Long after "He's just not that into you" and I am sold after "Going the Distance". I like how he's so charming in the boy-next-door kinda way. (is there even such a thing?!) If it was anyone else in his place, it probably wouldn't have delivered as well.

(*SPOILERS ALERT*)

My favorite scene has to be towards the end when Justin Long and Drew Barrymore had to break up because he realized that he couldn't stop her from having her dreams by making her move to NY with him. As they were at the airport, when he's about to check in, they decided to sit for awhile just to talk; and Barrymore sat down with one of her legs up hidden under her other thigh showing her nervousness and anxiety that they might never meet again. That for me was real and undeniably heart cringing. (I was actually holding back my tears HURHURHUR)

Meeting someone random at a bar, hitting it off almost straight away and then being crazily in love is hard to come by. But you know, these things do happen that's why people write about it and make them into movies. It made me question: How far would you GO the distance for someone you love? Especially when you're unsure about the future and unsure if this is all worth it? I bet you can't answer me right now.

What I know is - When you do meet that special someone, you'll go miles and miles for him/her and you'll never know when to stop because your heart won't let you.

I hope my special someone would go the distance for me, someday. It's ok to walk miles for people you love, even if they break your heart in the end.. 1 thing's for sure, you've already left footprints in their lives and their hearts.

Movie: HUSH

I was very lucky to be invited to HUSH's gala premier at Iluma! I didn't manage to take ANY pictures because I forgot I brought my camera but anyway. Here's a synopsis of what HUSH's all about:

Synopsis
Alice (Evelyn Maria Ng), unsure about her sexuality, is trapped between passion and moral between her family and friends. She frequently comes home late for dinner with her widower father (Vincent Tee) and 2 younger sisters (Janice Yeo and Cassevonrie Chia) due to her overtime at work. This makes her father very upset as he has made the daily family dinner compulsory and sees it as the only way to hold the family together. However, beneath the facade of kinship lie dark secrets and complex emotions ready to explode anytime, when keeping things hush may no longer be the way out.

View trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJl16pyVDig

It was a very.. provocative film, I must say. Apart from all the bed scenes, it was quite mind-fuck in some ways for me. Secrets are very dangerous things. Which is why some things are best unsaid. It ended quite abruptly for me. I wasn't sure what to feel at the end of it. I think we had our picture taken at the gala! Let me search for it and I'll post it up.

Do show your support for local talents and local production. I'm very proud that Jeremiah, the director, decided to share this fantastic film with everyone after 3 years. Thank you for having me there!

Anyway, on a side note, TUD is going be part of Flea Rider at Wavehouse on Saturday. You'll see items sold on our site so please come say hi if you're there!

All about DENIM

I've a lot of troubles with Denim. Mostly because I don't know how to pair them. I remember when I was really little, my mom used to dress me up with Denim on DENIM! Gasps. I know right... double denim... It is one of the worst fashion crime I'm not willing to forgive my mother for making me commit.

But guess what - DOUBLE DENIM IS BACK. Now let's commit some crimes.
